Breastfeeding has been one of the most challenging things I’ve ever had the privilege of doing. I wholly underestimated the impact it would have on my life. Before my eldest was born, I had a target of feeding for six months in mind. Once I began, those first few weeks (months!) were such a shock to the system that I remember thinking I’d never manage two weeks, nevermind meet my goal.
Sheer stubbornness got me through. Nearly five years later, I not only nursed my eldest until she was 4 and a half, I have also fed my youngest for over two and a half years and she doesn’t look to be stopping any time soon. Tandem feeding was never in my plans. But here we are.
“Beyond Expectations” is my new photography project celebrating breast/chestfeeding parents who have nursed their littles longer than they originally thought they would, whether that’s one feed or thousands of feeds.
If this sounds familiar, and you would like to be involved then I would love to hear from you. Find out if this project is for you.
I am delighted to add that this project is now supported by both Birnam Arts and Breast Buddies Perth & Kinross (through Homestart Perth and Kinross) The images from the project will be on display at Birnam Arts in August 2024 in time for World Breastfeeding Week.

Determined to normalise breastfeeding, I’ve nursed my girls in an array of public places. And why not?
